Songs for Layla

Verse 1

The floorboards creak so softly beneath the old wool rug and every step I take is careful, slow and low I carry all my love to you inside this hug the hallway holds its breath, and lets the quiet grow

Pre-chorus

Somewhere past the shadows a small light starts to glow I feel your breathing settle, feel the whole house slow and everything I am is leaning close to you

Chorus

Layla, close your eyes now, let the dark be kind you are held so gently, you are always mine nothing here can touch you, nothing you need find Layla, sleep is coming soft as any Shayla lullaby line

Verse 2

The rain begins its tapping on the window glass so light like fingers keeping rhythm just to help you drift along I stand here in the doorway watching over you tonight and my heart repeats your name like some old gentle song

Chorus

Layla, close your eyes now, let the dark be kind you are held so gently, you are always mine nothing here can touch you, nothing you need find Layla, sleep is coming soft as any Shayla lullaby line

Bridge

No sound but rain and breathing, no need for anything more just warmth beneath the blankets and the hush behind the door I will be right here beside you until the morning comes

Chorus

Layla, close your eyes now, let the dark be kind you are held so gently, you are always mine nothing here can touch you, nothing you need find Layla, sleep is coming soft as any Shayla lullaby line

Outro

The floorboards settle quiet beneath the old wool rug and I stay here softly with you, folded in this hug

Verse 1

Frost is spreading slowly on the window by your bed Painting quiet patterns while the streetlamp glows so gold Nothing cold can reach you underneath your blanket Every breath you take tonight keeps you safe and held

Chorus

Layla, close your eyes now, let the night grow still Nobody could love you more than I love you, love you until The morning comes to find you curled up warm and steady Layla, you're the calm that fills this whole house till

Verse 2

Outside the glass grows silver while the town all settles down Streetlamps hum their soft light over rooftops turning grey You don't need to worry about a single thing out there This room is just for you now, and the dark won't stay

Pre-chorus

Hush now, let your small hands rest beneath the covers Feel how slow the night moves when there's nothing left to chase Sleep is waiting gently, right here in this quiet place

Chorus

Layla, close your eyes now, let the night grow still Nobody could love you more than I love you, love you until The morning comes to find you curled up warm and steady Layla, you're the calm that fills this whole house till

Bridge

Let the frost keep tracing shapes we'll never need to name Nothing out there matters half as much as breathing slow You are safer than the streetlamp, warmer than its glow

Chorus

Layla, close your eyes now, let the night grow still Nobody could love you more than I love you, love you until The morning comes to find you curled up warm and steady Layla, you're the calm that fills this whole house till

Outro

The frost will still be drawing on the glass when you wake up Layla, sleep now, you were loved the whole night through

Verse 1

The door rattles softly but nothing can reach you tonight Only orange light dancing gentle on frosted glass You are wrapped up safe where the shadows turn kind And the whole quiet house holds its breath as you pass into rest

Chorus

Layla the night keeps you closer than any old gala Every flicker of light is just watching you dream Rest your small hands, let the world grow much smaller Layla you're held, you're the calm in between

Verse 2

The wind finds the door but it can't find its way in Every creak turns to hush the moment you sigh Somewhere a kettle still hums its low steady din While you drift under blankets as soft as the sky

Pre-chorus

Hush now, the glow on the glass is only for keeping Nothing tonight means to wake what is sleeping Just a warm little light where the dark starts creeping in

Chorus

Layla the night keeps you closer than any old gala Every flicker of light is just watching you dream Rest your small hands, let the world grow much smaller Layla you're held, you're the calm in between

Let every small sound turn to lullaby soon Let the flicker on glass be your own private moon
